Truckin'

It was time to say goodbye
to the beautiful spruce that grew in our back yard.
Disease had dictated its fate.
We felt it was better to take it down
than to have it fall on our neighbor's dome.

Everyone seemed to arrive at once..
Trucks for the roofers and for the tree removal.
Trucks were lined up down the street waiting to pull in.
As I look these over, there were still trucks that I didn't get shots of.

The shot below shows the
tiles being lifted up onto the roof.

Harris Hill

As I was driving into Elmira
I was greatly enjoying the new shades of green.
I couldn't drive by this each day
without stopping at least once to take a quick shot.
(I had a great time being in the pit for "Nine"
at Elmira College.)

Dirko Juchem

I'm totally in awe of the German alto flute player Dirko Juchem - Here he plays his own piece, "Buddha Lounge." I hope you get to hear him while you're in Europe Colin. He plays sax also!

James Moody is one of the few jazz flute players that I like to listen to.

I'm a fool to want you...

Sad but hauntingly beautiful...
I was checking out some jazz on You Tube
and decided to check out this song...
I really wasn't familiar with it..

First listen to this version with Frank Sinatra singing
and photos of the beautiful Ava Gardner.
Frank Sinatra wrote this song for her!

I'm a fool to want you
I'm a fool to want you
To want a love that can't be true
A love that's there for others too

I'm a fool to hold you
Such a fool to hold you
To seek a kiss not mine alone
To share a kiss the Devil has known

Time and time again I said I'd leave you
Time and time again I went away
But then would come the time when I would need you
And once again these words I'd have to say

I'm a fool to want you
Pity me, I need you
I know it's wrong, it must be wrong
But right or wrong I can't get along
Without you

Time and time again I said I'd leave you
Time and time again I went away
But then would come the time when I would need you
And once again these words I'd have to say

Take me back, I love you
Pity me, I need you
I know it's wrong, it must be wrong
But right or wrong I can't get along without you...

Does anyone write beautiful songs like this any more??

Cousins 1

While digging out birthday shots for kids, I've found lots of photos that family members might appreciate. I've been scanning some photos of the cousins on both sides of the family... Today I'm doing some Gordons back in around 1985-1988.

I may also be making a video slideshow on DVD down the road with the photos I'm scanning...
We'll see how time consuming it ends up being...
Hey Gordons, if you want photos up here but
don't want to do it yourself...
send them to me and I'll put them up!!!
Have a great weekend!!!

Naomi's Battle With Melanoma

The daughter of a close college friend of mine (and mother of a 2 year old) is battling stage 4 bone and lung cancer that they believe originated with melanoma. I'm sharing this in the hopes that some of you who visit my blog will be willing to donate to her cause... and at the very least say some prayers on her and her family's behalf.
You can read more about her story and how to donate at http://fornaomi.com/

The local news of Jacksonville, Florida ran this segment... http://www.news4jax.com/video/19401362/ I know that this hits close to home in the Gordon Clan...

We are blessed with each day that we can share with family and loved ones!!

Look Who's 21

It looks like someone turned 21 six minutes ago our time!!!
Congratulations and Happy Birthday!!

We're wondering how you celebrated your birthday Colin...
Probably studying and practicing of course!!
Let us know!!

Early Interest In Sports

You started training early on to become a tennis/baseball player... or was it a baseball tennis player!

You definitely took your sports seriously..
You never let a ball out of your sight...
You even took them to bed with you!!!

Here's Colin the soccer player!

And of course when you started training for a possible career
of catching for the Yankees... we spared no expense for your equipment!

You were great at running races....

until a fire truck or police car turned up in sight!
Then you had more important things to do!

Of course you had to PLAY football
while watching the Buffalo Bills.

Still, your fascination with trucks almost ruined
your dream of becoming a professional athlete.
This is your fireman stage!!!

You sure look great
behind the wheel
of that fire truck!!!

Grandparents Never Forget!

Three generations are in front of the Clock Tower.

Remember those scrabble games
and connect 4 with grandma..
You were sitting on Grandpa's lap
watching Lindsay's dance recital.

Celebrating Grandpa's Birthday...

Posing with their newest grandchild.

Hugs are very special.

We knew you were unusual when
you took an early interest in Time Magazine!!

Grandma is sewing the famous LadyBug
as you're getting ready for your first day of Nursery School.

It was always a thrill to ride Grandpa's tractor.
