Settlement House-(Post and Beam) - Fine Arts

I've had my first introduction to a Post and Beam House... Settlement House Fine Arts on Route 6 in the town of Sylvania. PA. Here you'll find lithographs by artist Connie Sickler as well as work by 50 other artisans. The building is a demonstration Post and Beam House which is her husband's business. I highly suggest stopping by for a visit!

This is one display that you'll find leading into her shop.

The ceilings are high and everything is very open.

The photo below shows how the beams fit together
in this type of construction.

The photo below shows the upstairs loft.
There are no walls separating
this room from the downstairs.
This is still part of the upstairs loft.
Check out the back yard.
The pool here is found in her basement studio.
This shows another display at the entrance.

The forsythia is blooming
in their back yard,
on the bank above the pool.

Wild Horse on the Commons

I met friend Kris on a quick trip to Ithaca on a 92 degree April day. First we had lunch at the Moosewood and then took a walk in the Commons.

A few more Friday photos

Amy Tan: Saying Thanks to My Ghosts

I've previously referenced "This I Believe"  from NPR.  I just read an essay that author Amy Tan submitted.  I especially thought that you would enjoy this Lindsay.... Check it out here!!

Appreciating the Colors of Spring

These shots are a continuation of our Friday walk. It was a perfect day to be outside. The bright sunshine and the colors of budding trees and spring flowers were almost intoxicating. I am remembering the sweltering hot days at the end of the school year with restless students who longed to be outdoors and again felt a rush of renewed freedom and appreciation for the beauty of the day! I again am hoping that my family and distant friends will appreciate the opportunity to glimpse the once familiar landmarks.

We still have quite a few trees that
are only beginning to bud,
so the leaves on theses branches were a welcome sight.

This building has an oriental look to it..
We still need more flowers...
We had to search a while to find these!

Imagine  That
looks quite comfortable in its new home..
Don't you wish that
all buildings had faces??

Walking in Black and white

Friday was unseasonably warm... it hit 80 degrees in the afternoon... what a beautiful day. Karen and I ended up walking around town.. I almost always bring my camera now... I love trying to look at the familiar scenes with new eyes.
Can you tell that this is the top of the Rockwell Museum as seen
from the footbridge across the Chemung.

Centerway of course!
It's too bad that this statue is off the beaten track.
There's a  nice little park area here
with benches for those of us who run out of steam.
